WildTable Oven
As a consultant design engineer, I led the design and development of two oven attachments for the Cashmere Caveman WildTable, increasing cooking capacity while maximising usability.
Problem
The Cashmere Caveman WildTable combines outdoor cooking and entertaining through its central firebox, which provides warmth to everyone seated around it.
❗However, the WildTable's grill lacked sufficient capacity for baking, roasting, and smoking larger quantities of food for dinner parties and events.
Solution
Working closely with the client, I developed two oven attachments - one for domestic use and one for catering events - maximizing the internal cooking volume within the constraints of the existing WildTable design.
✅ Improved capacity for baking, roasting and smoking whilst maintaining a direct relationship with fire, and matching the existing design language.
Process
Working closely with the company director, I managed the development from initial concept, through iterative prototyping and testing phases, to manufacture. This required managing expectations by providing timely, accurate responses and updates throughout the design process. I also created 100s of part and assembly drawings for local and international manufacturers.
Fabricator Collaboration
During the prototyping phase, I liaised with a local sheet metal fabricator, optimising the design based on their intimate knowledge of the manufacturing processes required. One key change, was modifying the shelf support from a fixed tab system, which required many welds, to a removable rack system, which also improved ease of cleaning.
User Testing
As the design evolved, it was informed by the results of user testing, translating user comments and pain points into new design iterations. This resulted in features including an externally mounted thermometer and enlarged front window. This helped deliver positive feedback from professional chefs and personal users alike.
CAD Modelling
I used SOLIDWORKS throughout development to model new components and present designs to the client. I also translated modelled components into technical drawings for manufacturers.
